The Illinois Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is committed to advancing public policy that improves the health and well-being of Illinois residents. We advocate for evidence-based nutrition policies and support legislative priorities that align with those of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Through advocacy, education, and collaboration, we strive to advance our Mission, Vision, and Values while strengthening the voice of nutrition professionals across the state.

The Illinois General Assembly is responsible for enacting state laws and passing Illinois' annual budget. Monitoring legislative activity helps ensure the nutrition profession has a voice in policies that affect patient care, public health, and access to nutrition services.

Meet the Illinois Academy Lobbyist

David Ormsby serves as the Illinois Academy's lobbyist and has extensive experience in public affairs, government relations, and public policy. Since 2016, he has represented clients through The Nolan Group, Inc., a Springfield-based public affairs firm, becoming its President and CEO in 2018.

 David holds a B.A. in Political Science/Philosophy, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; M.A. in Public Policy Analysis, University of Illinois Chicago; and a Ph.D. (A.B.D.), University of Illinois Chicago. He is also the owner, President, and CEO of Illinois Public Opinion, Inc., a public policy polling firm.
