Annual Legislative Event - Advocacy Day

Each year in spring, IAND hosts Advocacy Day, which provides both active and student members an opportunity to build relationships with their policymakers and further expand their knowledge on legislative efforts through in-person meetings at the Illinois State Capital in Springfield. However, with the current public health crisis limiting travel and face-to-face interactions, holding such event this year in person was not possible. Instead, IAND took the opportunity to reimagine Advocacy Day for a virtual world.

Your Role as an Advocate

Advocating for the nutrition profession is imperative to our success. Serving as a Grassroots Advocate can reap these many rewards, plus so much more.

  • Capture the attention of elected officials so they listen to our concerns on issues of importance.
  • Raise the level of awareness about causes and matters at all legislative levels.
  • Harness thoughts and ideas of members to help create change within public policy.
  • Use your knowledge, insights and experiences to educate legislators about important areas of the nutrition profession, i.e., healthcare coverage, food access and licensure.
  • Make a difference in our state and nation’s health and nutrition policy.
