Implicit Bias Awareness Training

The Implicit Bias Training Mandate for Health Care Workers was signed into law in the summer of 2021 to promote awareness and understanding of how implicit bias can influence health care decisions, interactions, and outcomes.

Implicit bias refers to attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious or unintentional manner. Research has shown that implicit bias can create barriers to recruiting and retaining a diverse scientific and health care workforce and may contribute to disparities in health care.

Training Requirement

For license or registration renewals occurring on or after January 1, 2023, health care professionals who hold a professional license listed under Section 1130.500 Implicit Bias Awareness Training are required to complete one hour of implicit bias awareness training during each renewal period.

This one-hour training may be applied toward the minimum continuing education hours required for license renewal.
