Admissions Day

This is the celebration of the day Hawaii was officially admitted as the 50th state of the union.  Hawaii was turned down to become a state in 1919, 1935, 1947, and 1950. Finally, 1959, Hawaii became a state, which means a yearly celebration of the day.

People honor patriotism toward the Hawaiian nation. The day recognizes all who engaged in struggles to protect the homeland, restore cultural integrity, and reinstate the re-recognition of the true national consciousness. It is considered a state holiday and government offices are closed as well as schools and major universities. Some bus companies may observe and not run routes.
