Ian Washington

Which committees did you serve on?
I have completed three rotations for the Pathway to Leadership Program. They include Social Media, Diversity and Inclusion, and Foundations.

What has been your favorite experience so far?
My favorite experience so far was gaining a better understanding of the rotations I have been involved in. At first, I had limited knowledge as to how the rotation pertained to dietetics. I also was able to meet some incredible dietetic interns that share similar interests to me and have made the experience very enjoyable.

What benefits has the program brought you?
This program benefited my communication and leadership skills. Throughout each rotation I have gained skills to effectively advocate nutrition and dietetics by utilizing social media, diversity and inclusion, and foundations as a framework. Also, learning the ins-and-outs about the rotation guidelines have been useful in enhancing my overall knowledge of what the Illinois Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics adheres to.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I envision myself working as a pediatric dietitian. I have always been intrigued by clinical nutrition and would love to work in research or at a pediatric hospital. Providing nutrition intervention that promotes the well-being of children has always been a passion of mine.
