Central DistrictPresident's MessageHello CIAND members, and welcome to your 2023-2024 program year! On behalf of myself and the CIAND Board of Directors, we are excited for another fun-filled and educational year with all of you. I first would like to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Elayna Fehr and I am your 2023-2024 CIAND President. I look forward to taking on this new leadership role as I have been a member of CIAND and on the Board of Directors for over 4 years now. My past experiences with CIAND include holding positions as the newsletter chair, marketing/PR co-chair, and program director, in addition to assisting with the fundraiser and scholarship committees. My involvement with CIAND dates back to my time at Bradley University, where I completed the MS/DI program back in 2019. I have worked as a clinical dietitian at the VA Bloomington Community Based Outpatient Clinic where I provide outpatient nutrition counseling in a wide variety of nutrition-related areas for the last four years. Serving men and women who have served our country has been quite the honor. I look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new members this year!
We are kicking off the year with our first CEU event on September 5th. Jason Vogel from The Illinois Home Gardening Alliance will be speaking with CIAND members on regenerative agricultural practices such as no till approaches, irrigation methods, composting, inclusion of beneficial bacteria and fungi and provide additional resources and tools that you can use no matter your experience level or gardening space availability. He will also provide insight into how local food sources can result in a healthier planet for generations to come when we make simple changes over time. On behalf of myself and our board of directors, we are excited to get things started for our 2023-24 program year!
