Sylvia Klinger, RD

Sylvia Klinger, registered dietitian and certified personal trainer, is founder of Hispanic Food Communications, Hinsdale, IL a food communications and culinary consulting company.

A Hispanic native who is a leading expert in cross-cultural Hispanic cuisine as it relates to nutrition and health, Ms. Klinger speaks both English and Spanish fluently. Ms. Klinger has an impressive record and knowledge of Hispanic foods and culture. Her Experience brings an in-depth base foundation of culinary and cultural expertise and introduces new strategies to maximize exposure among an increasing health-conscious Hispanic population. She addresses specific health issues important to the increasing Hispanic population. Ms. Klinger leverages the tasteful Latin cuisine and lifestyle of health –conscious Hispanics with the increasing health problems fast approaching this Hispanic population today.

Media Representative
Sylvia Meléndez-Klinger is a skilled media representative, with numerous television, radio and internet credits. She has appeared on CBS, NBC, Univision, Telemundo and America Teve programs, including “Cada Dia con Maria Antonieta” and “Despierta America” where she is a frequent guest. Sylvia has also been a guest nutritionist on many Hispanic radio talk shows, and is a regular contributor to the Similac “Moms Alliance” and a moderator for myalli.com. Her Recipe Makeover segment appears monthly in the national syndicated show “Hispanics Today”
Sylvia has presented at numerous conferences, including The International Association of Culinary Professionals and the Conference of La Cumbre de las Américas de Nutrición y Salud, School Nutrition Association (SNA), National Association of Bilingual Educators (NABE), LULAC, MANA, COMADRES, and the 2006 National Hispanic Women’s Conference.

Nutrition Consultant

As a registered dietitian, Sylvia Meléndez-Klinger provides expert advice to food and beverage companies – and their customers – about healthy eating. She works closely with brand management teams to develop messages about the nutritional benefits of their products.

Recipe Developer
Prior to founding Hispanic Food Communications, Sylvia served as Senior Culinary Development Specialist and Supervisor of Consumer Test Kitchens at the Quaker Oats Company. Her recipes have appeared in television segments, product packaging, books and national health and fitness campaigns.

Here is a “typical” day-at-a-glance:

6:00 – 8:30 am morning activity, take family members to a.m. commitments
8:30 to 10:30 am exercise
11:00 to 12:00 pm check and respond to e-mails and get ready for conference call
12:00 to 1:00 weekly conference call with client
1:00 to 2:00 pm work on proposal for clients and finish two power points for up coming presentations
2:00 to 4:30 pm pitch media on a press release
4:30 to 5:30 pm start writing article for media request and respond to a couple of more e-mails
5:30 to 8:00 pm family time (I cook and sit down for dinner)
8:00 to 11:00 pm

Kelly O'Connell, RD

As a registered dietitian, Kelly lends her nutrition communication expertise to Weber Shandwick (A Global Public Relations and Communications Agency) clients including the U.S. Dairy Industry, Mars health and the National Pork Board. She brings diverse and comprehensive experience in media relations, consumer marketing and emerging nutrition media. Overall, being a registered dietitian provides credibility and expertise for all the consumer accounts at the company. This certification assists in strategizing events, programs and developing key health messages for the client's product. In preparation for this position, Kelly had accomplished her dietetic internship and followed through a public relations internship. Every day is a different day in what duties are performed. Research and writing are a big part of the job as well as following consumer trends.
