The Illinois Constitution charges the legislative branch of our State government with the task of creating and maintaining a body of statutory law. Law which defines the public policy of our State, and controls the manner in which dietitians interact with their patients, employers, customers and health care colleagues. Law which ultimately influences our ability to enhance the nutritional status of large segments of the citizens of our State, and to be appropriately compensated for the professional services which we provide.

Many differing interests compete for the attention of our legislators in relation to health care issues. Interests which are diverse in their agendas, but often are singularly narrow in their motive of reducing cost and scope of services available to our patients.

The IDA Legislative Team of The Illinois Dietetic Association, targets legislation which is consistent with the stated objectives of The Illinois Dietetic Association, for purposes of encouraging favorable consideration by the Legislature. The Team likewise identifies legislation which is considered deleterious to the nutritional health of our State to help educate legislators in those situations as to the drawbacks of the law under consideration.
