To govern the profession, the House of Delegates:
• Monitors and evaluates trends affecting the profession
• Monitors member issues and mega issues, and the resulting actions
• Is a deliberative body that acts as the voice of ADA members
• Develops policy on major professional issues

The process by which the House of Delegates is governed is known as Knowledge-based Strategic Governance.

Delegates represent:
• State affiliates
• Practice
• Education
• Research
• Dietetic Technicians
• Students
• Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE)
• Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
• Retired members
• Members 30 years of age or less

Some committees of the House of Delegates:
• Diversity Committee
• Association Positions Committee
• Quality Management Committee
• Issues Management Committee
There are also several committees held jointly with the ADA Board of Directors.

The House of Delegates generally meets in person twice a year - before the Food and Nutrition Conference & Exhibition (FNCE), and later in the spring. Dialogue also takes place year-round on the HOD listserv.
