SSDA President’s Message Fall 2009

Dear SSDA area Dietetic Professionals, Interns, and Students,
Welcome back to another exciting and educational year with SSDA. We had a terrific 2008-2009 year with several interesting and informative speakers. We gave away 5 registrations to the “Innovative Concepts in Nutrition” seminar presented by the Ingalls Interns in February, 3 registrations to the IDA Spring Assembly, and 1 trip to FNCE coming up in October; congratulations Jayne Winnie, and enjoy Denver. Thank you one more time to our past president, Tracy Blozis, for a sensational year.
We have a superb line-up of speakers ready to go for 2009-2010. Thank you Kim Kramer, our President-elect, for your awesome job setting up our program this year. The program is available on the website. We will again attempt to secure the Orland Park Public Library for as many of our non-dinner meetings as possible; however, our September meeting will be at DeVry in Tinley Park. Our November Dinner Meeting is already planned for Angelino’s in Mokena. SSDA will be offering 12 CEUs this year, not including the February seminar at Ingall’s Hospital.
We will continue to raffle off registrations to the “Innovative Concepts in Nutrition” seminar to active members attending the November meeting, to the IDA Spring Assembly to active members attending the January meeting, and to FNCE in Boston in November, 2010 — all active members who attend 6 of the 7 scheduled meetings will be eligible, and the winner will be drawn at the May Dinner Meeting. We will also continue to offer a free dinner meeting to any members who refer a new member to SSDA, so let’s all try to help build a larger SSDA This is not a membership renewal year, so new member fees are pro-rated for only 1 year. The forms are available at www.eatrightillinois.org under the districts tab. Remember that we all have to show that we are still ADA members, so please bring a copy of your new ADA membership card to the meeting and give it to our membership committee.
We would like to have sponsorship for our speakers this year. If anyone has any contacts and would like to help us obtain a sponsor for any of our meetings, we would much appreciate your assistance.
So everyone come out on the second Wednesday of most months to enjoy food, networking, free giveaways, and some wonderful education opportunities with the dynamic speakers on our schedule. We start at 6:00 pm and our speaker starts about 6:30pm. I hope to see a full house at every meeting
