SSDA President’s Message

Posted: 8/30/2011

Greetings fellow Nutrition Professionals!

I hope that everyone has enjoyed a relaxing and fulfilling summer! I want to welcome everyone back to another year with the South Suburban Dietetic Association (SSDA); as well as extend a welcome to any new dietitians/diet technicians/students. We are pleased and excited to begin another great year of networking amongst dietetic professionals and hope to attract new members to our wonderful organization. We are excited to offer a variety of continuing education topics this year which our President Elect-Elaine Eickstaedt – has been vigorously working on this past summer. Our current program can be found on the SSDA website on eatrightillinois.org . We are pleased to again offer 13 CEU opportunities within the SSDA organization. We will also be raffling off registrations to the Innovative Concepts in Nutrition Seminar (Hosted by Ingalls Memorial Hospital Interns) as well as registrations for members to attend the IDA Spring Assembly in 2012! Not to mention, a membership within SSDA will earn you a spot on our email list- where you will keep up on the most recent SSDA news, scholarship and award opportunities, as well as job opportunities!! It really is a bargain these days!

Just a few notes to help jump start the year right:

On the site is the SSDA registration form- please fill this out and bring it to the September meeting. Also- a copy of your current ADA card will be needed to certify your membership within SSDA. Please bring a copy of your card or bring your card to the first meeting and our membership chair will make a copy. SSDA requires all members to have a copy of their ADA card on file. If members do not submit their ADA card copy by the October meeting- we will hold the CEU certificates until the copy is obtained. Registration fees remain $30 for the year for RD/DTR; $15 for interns, $10 for students.

In accordance with the ADA- SSDA is pleased to welcome any health professionals included in the new ADA Associates Category. We gladly welcome any associate looking to join SSDA to collaborate with our dietetic professionals.

Look us up and “Like” us on facebook! Yes SSDA has now joined the ranks of the social networks! Find us on facebook and keep in touch for the latest meeting information and current events around SSDA. Also, members of SSDA will be added to our email list which all program announcements, volunteer opportunities and job postings will be sent through. If you have a question or concern- please email us @ SSDAdietitians@gmail.com

SSDA will again continue to support local food pantries as part of our commitment to community nutrition. Again this year we will collect any non-perishable food items/monetary donations at all general meetings- which will be donated to various local food pantires and organizations in need. Please be generous and help to support those less fortunate than us.

Lastly- our general meetings in September/October/November will be held @ the Palos Primary care center- directions to be posted on the website. Please note the September program will start @ 6:45pm- don’t be late!

Can’t wait to see you all at the meetings-let’s make it a great year!

In Good Health;

Lauren Zuro; RD/CD

SSDA President
