Southern Illinois Dietetic Association - President's Message

Presidents Message

Posted: 9/9/2007
As the fall approaches, SIDA will shed some leaves in preparation for a new year. We have a slate of new officers, but want to thank Cynthia York-Camden (Past President), Melissa Fay Banz (Past Secretary) and Becky Lewis (Past Treasurer) for their dedication and leadership. As in all organizations, they will all continue to be active in SIDA chairing committees and providing insight.

The season will officially kick off with our first meeting at Blue Sky Vineyard on September 27, 2007. After our social hour from 6:00-7:00 pm, Kate Zager will present an interactive session on “improving Your Counseling Skills. Just one week prior to that on September 20th at John A. Logan College is the Southern Illinois Obesity Conference “Tipping the Scale…Managing Obesity in Southern Illinois. We have several other continuing education opportunities planned for this upcoming year so keep coming back to this page to check out the latest information.

As your new president, I will strive to make SIDA an organization that provides much opportunity for the dietetic professional. At SIDA meetings, we will continue to provide networking time with refreshments to allow you to talk with old friends and make new ones as well. Attending SIDA meetings not only allows you to earn continuing education credit hours, but it provides you with updated legislation, job openings, and networking opportunities to name a few. In addition, you will have the opportunity to join various committees that will inspire growth on a personal and professional level. As reminder, we are still looking to fill several committee chair positions and President Elect. Did you know that being President-Elect includes a $100.00 stipend?

Remember, to keep this organization growing and remaining strong we need each member to contribute something to the organization…whether getting another non-member dietitian to join our group, become a board member, participate on a committee, help organize revenue and/or just suggest some ideas to better our group. Our goal is to have a steady income stream to ensure the future of our organization. If you are interested, please contact a BOD member.

If you have any items of interest, please forward them to newsletter chairperson: Hollie Colle @jewski79@hotmail.com.

Feel free to email me at bell@onecliq.net with any ideas, comments or suggestions. We can all work together to make this season for SIDA the best year ever!
