We will be starting the year with a joint meeting with RRADE. American Association of Diabetes Educators is sponsoring the speaker. Non-AADE members will be able to attend the meeting on September 20, 2011 for $20. (Cost covers dinner and 1-2 hours credit) Location will be announced later. The program will discuss celiac disease and type I diabetes. Gluten intolerance seems to be much more prevalent, and this subject is one that most of us will find interesting and educational.

RRVDA will continue to provide their members with CEU’s from reputable speakers at a variety of locations within our district. Our current president-elect, Emilie Fielder, is planning a variety of programs for the upcoming year. I am looking forward to upcoming programs where we can meet new members and reconnect with the old. More information about upcoming meetings will be sent to members once Emilie has confirmed the details and locations.

The delegate report presented last spring increased our awareness of what effect healthcare reform may have on our profession. This is the time for everyone to get to know our senators and legislators!

One of my goals for the district is to recognize our outstanding members and apply for them to be recognized at the state level. Jenny Paul, our treasure, was recognized young dietititan of the year, 2010. I would like to see more of our members recognized for the work we have done.

We will continue with the early registration drawing for $25.00. Please fill out the registration form and send in to qualify for the early registration drawing.

I hope to see all of you at the September 20, 2011 meeting in Rockford.

RRVDA includes the following counties in northwestern Illinois: Carroll, Lee, Boone, Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Ogle, Winnebago, and DeKalb. It also includes Sterling and Rock Falls in Whiteside County, the following cities in McHenry County: Harvard, Marengo, Hartland, Alden, Lawrence, Franklinville, Union, Coral, Riley and Harmony, and the following cities in Kane County: Hampshire, Burlington, Virgil, Maple Park, Elburn, Kaneville, Big Rock, and Sugar Grove.
